if anyone else is reading Yurugu and wants to discuss, I’ve been (trying to) organizing discussions around the book with a study group I started but have not gotten as much engagement.
-
I’m willing to Brother. I’ll have to start the book next week Saturday. I’ve permanently left Twitter BTW just had enough of that place. So I’ll be here only.
-
yea I saw; it’s an open source intel tool for me, don’t let people get to you.
-
on Yurugu though looks like the biggest issue is finding a time where multiple people can meet. Because of that I might record a video and post it on my channel with reading some excerpts I like.
-
I hear you

That book is on my list but I hear that its very dense so it would take me some time to finish it. What can you tell me about the book?
-
It’s one of the best books ever written for Afrikan people to be aware and know where the Western/European system and its people come from historically, culturally, etc. All of us who have been trodding this Afrikan-consciousness for a while have thought about things in this book, but master scholar Mama Marimba Ani delves deeper. She majored in Anthropology and turned it back around on them, instead of what white Anthropologists have done through scientific racism against Africans and other Indigenous peoples, she studied them for a change. I never seen a book written with this amount of detail on them from an Afrikan-centered perspective. Sistar goes back to before Plato and Socrates to explain the origins of Westernism. I’m still reading though, I’m in chapter 3 currently, which deals with Aesthetics.

hey brotha can I get you to fill out this form for the group: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSea04epmRzZ-zaWXiJdK2HlckkUYd_18SHVJhL5JEp0RagE5A/viewform?usp=sf_link

I’d like to discuss as well. I have a soft copy and have started on it several times. The reading card that OOK designed provides a nice guide for summarizing thoughts. This might be good for the group to use as we work through the book.
-

hey sistar, I’m currently using google groups to manage the group for emails and access to resources on google drive. is it okay to add you or you prefer not to? I gathered the group members from different places so email notifications mailed to the google group is how we communicate. lmk
-
I see. Yes, I’d prefer to not to be added to a goog drive or group since it is the main G8 surveillance tool for tracking group interests and activities. Maybe I can help us find a non-FB, Goog, etc place to gather resources. Have you considered one of the activists tools like this? https://riseup.net/en/lists If it throws off your flow, then I can bow out, but wanted to offer an alternative.
-
No problem. We also have the signal group we’re using through Signal which is the most secure messaging app I know of at the moment so I can also post the meetings info in there if you want to be added to that one. I looked at the riseup lists but it’s only for political causes. I’ve done some research but still looking. Trying to keep it free for the group.
-
Appreciate your efforts. I’ll keep looking as well. I wonder if there’s a way to use this Book Club group as a way to notify folx since we receive emails anyway whenever something new is posted. I thought I saw a feature for filestorage, Buddydrive? somewhere on the site as well.

how much gigs can we upload to BuddyDrive? Yeah, only a few people in the study group are on Abibitumi so that’s why it’s been email based communications. A lot of them don’t do any social media. Others are on twitter. Hard to get those two groups to come on here.
