From the book “Libation: An Afrikan Ritual Heritage in the Circle of Life” by Nana Kimani Nehusi,

“In fact, as we shall shortly see, libation is founded upon two elementary and demonstrable truths about the cosmos. The first is that the universe is a single integrated whole composed of interdependent elements. The second is that to impair any of the relations that hold these elements together in a harmoniously functioning order is ultimately to threaten the existence of all the elements in the whole and therefore the entire cosmos itself. At the very basis of libation, therefore, is a fundamental idea of the Afrikan world-view, which is that there is a oneness, or unity, with consequent interconnection and interdependence, balance and harmony, within and among all beings and things in the cosmos.”
