Chapter 1: Nana Wilson’s explanation and exploration of the word power and its dynamics as it relates to the Afrikan experience is insightful, yet troubling that this challenge still exists on many levels. Although this group will not analyze or review the masterful work of Nana Wilson, we will for the purpose of completing strategic goals summarize the major points.

What is power begins with a proclamation of the many definitions and socially accepted circumstances we label as power, but explains we will only focus on the relevant forms of power in this chapter. Nana Wilson continues to build on this organic orientation explaining that “Power refers to the ability to do, the ability to be, the ability to prevail.” The subsequent forms of power can be presented as ‘power over’ vs ‘power to’ or for the purpose of liberation ‘supremacy’ vs ‘subordination’.

The forms of power are as follows:

      Force as Power

      Coercion as Power

      Influence as Power

Competent and Legitimate Authority as Power

      Manipulation as Power

The discussion will address the forms of power within the S.T.E.A.M. fields as it relates to Afrikan Liberation.
