BLACK HISTORY IN BLACK TIME

One of the things I’m really interested in is changing my view of time. Western concepts of time can produce a linear worldview which is not beneficial when working within a non-linear worldview/culture. African Culture and Traditions promote and recognize a cyclical nature of reality.
To help me root myself more in African worldview and culture, I created a simple website that allows you to work with the Traditional Akan Calendar. Learn what day it is and what future or past dates are in the Akan calendar.
The Akan calendar works off of a 42 cycle called Adaduanan. Each day in the cycle has its own name and from that, researchers have derived meanings that can be associated with each day.
Certain days in the calendar are what we call Dabɔne (lit. Bad day). This day is reserved for ceremonies and rituals attached to your Ancestors and the Abosom (deities). The name tells us that it is a “bad” day to work outside that context.
It’s really interesting seeing what days different events have fallen on what days in the Akan calendar!
Check out the website! https://www.akancalendar.com
Go see what day you were born or what day past or future occurred!
I’ll make a video in the coming week or so describing the Akan Calendar in more detail
