“The individualism of the West artificially detaches the person for
the community and thereby establishes innumerable islands of self
validation, authority, discretion, freedom and power. Freedom in
this context is tantamount to chaotic and totally impulsive behavior
without accountability. In reality this mass of individuals is
subject to collectively controlled centers of power, including state
and mega corporations. This is the end product of western liberal
democracy. This is modernity which mandates that every individual is
answerable only to self, and is free of any restraint by the
collective order or obligation to that order. The one sacred
obligation is the maximization of pleasure (or profit) for self, and
the avoidance and transfer of pain and discomfort to others.”
