This reminds me of a lecture I heard by Amos Wilson when he talks about a particular tribes initiation and making the young man experience hunger and facing fear. He must experience hunger until he can capture cows from someone else and before he goes on this journey he tells his mother he will no longer eat her food thus he would no longer be a consumer. Or in certain tribes where they make you jump over running bulls to face your fear and the women cheer you on by slapping the back with straps to remind you of the pain that she experienced to bring you into life to give you courage. When you think about it even games have something similar when they jump you in. All of these rituals were designed to teach you about facing fears, struggling through pain and hardship. The lack of these realities is why so many of us are emotionally intellectually and spiritually weak today. Some of us won’t even speak to brothers because they disagreed on the internet but they can write books about African spirituality and centeredness 😂😂😂 in my opinion this is what it speaks of when it talks about developing spiritual maturity.
