I returned today from the historic Afro Diasporan Stick & Blade Gathering in Los Angeles this weekend. It was an excellent event. I learned a great deal and was able to connect with masters and practitioners of several beautiful African Diasporan arts. I feel such profound gratitude to the various masters and teachers that came and shared. It was especially enjoyable to be around my Os Malandros de Mestre Touro family as well.

Make no mistake about it, our ancestors live through our martial arts. These arts express the humanity, beauty, history, and spirituality of African people. They are advanced technologies capable of facilitating the expression of our highest and most audacious selves. They can both nullify fear and cultivate love. They strengthen character and teach humility. They develop discernment and foster community. I am continually made better by my practice of them.
