In Blueprint for Black Power, Nana Amos Wilson spoke of how in the 1960s, “Black Power” organizations and conferences were appropriated through them being sponsored by white corporations who were then able to control the narrative, social-political character and orientation of the Afrikan community, therefore neutralizing any threat to their own losing of power. He goes on to cite a specific “Black Power” conference that happened in Newark, NJ in 1967 that was financed by 50 white corporations. Moreover he states, the Afrikan community must establish self-supporting institutions if we are to generate and exercise genuine Black Power. We doing that, Abibitumi Conference 2023, ASE!

I think the (mis)understanding of power is a major problem — it was/is largely protest based. Protest in reaction to white antagonism — not white domination
Ex, that Olympic runner raising a black fist in the ’68 Olympics was a protest statement, not.a black power statement.
