“Put Yourself Back Together” by Jermaine Thomas

In the ancient Kemetic text, The Book of Coming Forth by Day, it states:

“‘I am the Great One, son of the Great One; [I am] Fire, the ‘son of Fire,’ to whom was given his head after it had been ‘cut off.’ The head of [Ausar/] Osiris was not taken away from him. ‘Let not the head of [Ausar/] Osiris Ani be taken away from him. I ‘have knit myself together; I have made myself whole and ‘complete; I have renewed my youth; I am [Ausar/] Osiris, the lord ‘of eternity’” (Budge, 1898/ c. 1250 BCE, p. 98).

Ausar (Osiris) represents divine resurrection and after the scribe, Ani, dies, he takes on the name of Ausar (Osiris), therefore identifying with the concept of the resurrected divine. This passage signifies many things, but perhaps foremost among them is that although the divine mind and body of the Black collective has been torn asunder, we possess the power to reassemble ourselves and resurrect our former glory. By reconstituting our cultural memory, we can restore our strength, unity, and eternal essence.
