      Historic Peace Agreement Signed in CAR Under Chadian Mediation

      Under the leadership of Field Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby, Bangui reached a peace accord with two major armed factions: the 3R led by Oumar Abdel Kader, known as “Sembe Bobbo,” and the UPC, commanded by Ali Darassa.

      This diplomatic success, initiated jointly by Presidents Faustin-Archange Touadéra and Déby, holds the promise of transforming regional stability.

      Key terms of the agreement include:

      Immediate cessation of hostilities across the country;
      Demobilization, disarmament, and reintegration of fighters;
      Reaffirmation of the Central African state’s authority;
      Political integration of former combatants;
      A monitoring mechanism led by Chad.

      The announced return of rebel leaders embodies the dynamic of reconciliation, described in the official communiqué as a “peace pipe.”
