Kenya Sets Bold Tourism Target as Ruto Launches Global Masai Mara Livestream
Kenyan President William Ruto has announced an ambitious campaign to attract 5 million international tourists by 2027 as part of a broader push to elevate Kenya’s global tourism profile.
Speaking during the launch of the 2025 Great Wildebeest Migration global livestream from the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve, Ruto emphasized sustainable and transformative tourism.
“We are focused on tourism that enriches both the visitor and the host and transforms travelers into ambassadors for Kenya,” he said.
Tourist arrivals rose 15% to 2.4 million in 2024, generating $3.5 billion in earnings. The campaign will spotlight Kenya’s diverse attractions—from wildlife and beach holidays to innovation, sports, and cultural heritage.
Ruto praised Masai Mara as the “crown jewel” of Kenyan tourism, highlighting its ecological success and annual Great Migration spectacle, a world-renowned event featuring dramatic crossings of the Mara River.
“Sustainable tourism is a living reality in Masai Mara, where communities thrive, ecosystems flourish, and travelers leave enthralled,” he said.
