The expression “mon BAC poche j’irai à l’immersion patriotique” refers to a new measure in Burkina Faso where students who pass the baccalaureate exam must obligatorily participate in a patriotic immersion program. This immersion, lasting one month, aims to instill civic, patriotic, and citizenship values in young graduates to prepare them to be responsible and engaged citizens.
Specifically, students who pass the BAC will be admitted to centers where they will receive courses on several modules such as the nation, living together, international relations, the sociology of Burkina Faso, as well as training in digital skills and entrepreneurship. They will also participate in adapted physical activities after a medical check-up. At the end of this immersion, a certificate is issued, which is required for enrollment in public and private universities in the country. This measure, established in May 2025, requires mandatory participation under threat of legal sanctions, but it is neither military training nor a punishment. It is designed to strengthen patriotic spirit and build a youth engaged in the nation’s development.
