Rwanda Pioneers Autonomous Flying Taxi, a First for Africa

The innovation was presented in Kigali during the Aviation Africa 2025 summit, where the electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft successfully completed its maiden flight.

This initiative positions Rwanda as a key player “shaping the future of air transport,” according to the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority.

The passenger drone taxi was developed in partnership with two Chinese companies and is already in use in countries such as China and Brazil.

Rwanda is already recognized for its pioneering use of drones in parcel delivery, particularly for transporting essential goods like blood to remote areas.
