Yesterday was Fofie, one of the sacred dabɔne days in the Akan Adaduanan cycle. Dabɔne are days when the gates between the seen and unseen worlds open, and the spirits walk among us.

Fofie shares something powerful with Fɔdwo: both occur on Fo, within the six-day cycle (nnanson). These Fo days are set aside for council, honoring anthropomorphic nature spirits, and medico-religious healing. Fofie and Fɔdwo are times to pause from ordinary labor and align ourselves with the deeper forces that sustain life.

Okomfohemaa Nana Akua Oparebea carried the Abosom from Larteh into the diaspora, ensuring that we remained connected to the spiritual infrastructure that empowers us to meet our challenges and pursue our goals. Among the Abosom she brought was Adade Kofi, a divinity of iron and justice, who first manifested on an Efiada (Friday)—hence the name Kofi.

On Fofie, we are reminded that this is an excellent time to honor Adade Kofi and the spirit of iron—manifest in nature and within each of us—that grants resilience, balance, and the will to pursue justice.

This post features a video of Nana Jobi, a devoted servant of Adade Kofi in Larteh, Ghana, who continues this sacred work of maintaining the bond between divinity, community, and the natural world.

Join us in continuing this legacy: Register for the Nana Oparebea Viewing on September 27, 2025—the day before Akwasidae, known as Memeneda Dapaa.
