I don’t even like celebrities but artists that curate the sonic landscape of your life are like the audio engineers of your story. The same way so many elders had Michael Jackson, Prince, Ashford & Simpson, The Isley Brothers, Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight; I have D’Angelo. A literal genius and incredibly brilliant curator of sounds. Also the fact that he dressed like a 90s neo soul villain is legendary. I give thanks for the sounds he and Angie Stone brought us. 🌞♾🤎
Bakari Kwadwo, Niara Kwento and 4 others-
Voodoo is my favorite album. He displays a profound awareness and understanding of the history of Afrikan music on that one.

@shadejford I literally regularly listen to “One Mo’ Gin”, “Feel Like Making Love”, “Send it On” and “The Root”. And the “Africa” demo is extremely great. I seriously feel like a piece of my childhood went home with him

The fact that he named the album ‘Voodoo’ even though he likely got pushback from record execs for doing so makes him a revolutionary and in my eyes, an ancestor. Its a classic work indeed.

@Adjoa Malaika Gathoni came on the scene with “Brown Sugar”, became the apex of expression full of literal soul/spirit and sensuality with “Voodoo” blessed us with the authentic “Black Messiah” before leaving the realm. What more could we ask for? Also I saw an interview ting with Bobby Seale that he did in a cadillac or something, D’Angelo was the spirit of music in human form.
