Abibisika (Black Gold) Points
My journey and acclimation to the roots of my ancestors continues.
Acclimation:
The process or result of becoming accustomed to a new climate or to new conditions.
I attended the “Ghana Digital & Innovation Week” conference. I met a vendor there and I decided to purchase an item from her. She quoted me a price for the item, which I replied, what if I buy two?
I thought the price was high and was looking for ways to bring balance to the price equation she quoted me.
She responded, I know you have money and can afford to pay the higher price. You come from America.
She asked me a few question to justify her pricing calculations, which was prejudicial, unethical and Capitalistic greedy in nature.
This has been my experience thus far with most vendors I met here in Ghana. Other African American and other Diaspora I met is operating in the same way which is another very sad thing I have seen.
I have come to the conclusion that the majority of my black people knows nothing about Ubuntu!!
Ubuntu is a Nguni Bantu term meaning “humanity,” often translated as “I am because we are” or “a person is a person through other people”. It embodies a philosophy of we are inter-connected, we share communal unity, and shared values, where an individual’s identity and well-being are intrinsically linked to the community and relationships with others. This philosophy emphasizes compassion, mutual respect, and the understanding that our humanity is a shared and interdependent quality.
