Burkina-Faso Government Plans Reinstate Death Penalty Nearly Six Years After Its Abolition
The Council of Ministers chaired by Ibrahim Traore adopted a bill on the Penal Code this on Thursday.
This bill “meets the deep aspirations of the Burkinabe people,” the Minister of Justice, Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, said.
The death penalty will thus be applied for:
🟠 High treason
🟠 Acts of terrorism
🟠 Acts of espionage
🟠 And other major offenses against the Nation
The government explains this measure by the need to protect national sovereignty and to deter the most serious threats to state security.
The bill will soon be submitted to the Transitional Legislative Assembly for final adoption.
