Marimba Meets Balafon!
Pan-Abibiwiase (Black World) musical collaboration when the marimba meets the balafon, and Abibifoɔ across the ocean re-connect. The marimba is from Abibiman developed in ‘colombia’ by Abibifoɔ and the main instrument of the Black genre from the southern hemisphere called Currulao. The balafon is an ancient Abibiman instrument heavily found in the present day countries of the ancient Mali empire, such as Senegal as represented here. Currulao players have theorized the marimba is a descendant of the balafon, reconstructed in the Choco rainforest of the Southern hemisphere from the memory Abibifoɔ had of back home.

@AfroN8V I don’t know the song in particular but I’m familiar with the rhythm & instruments I see in the video. There are musical instruments which are similar to what we have in Kamerun (Cameroon) Senegal (music) – Mbalax, (instruments) Djembe ak Sabar (drum & stick) Xalam – the 3 stringed calabash. In Kamerun, the balafon is known amongst people of the West highlands Bamileke, Bamoum as Djein, and to people of the Forest regions Centre, South & East; Beti, Baka, Fang it’s called Komenjang 🤗

@OHENENANA Indeed. Do you play any instruments? Does anyone play the Balafon in Ghana?

@OHENENANA you got video of you playing koshka? Thinking Balafon might be seen in Northern Ghana as it’s in Burkina Faso.

@AfroN8V Never thought to make a video, but now that you’ve mentioned I’ll definitely do one when I get the chance to play it again
