Can someone explain to me why some who born in America get offended when others refer to them as African American but ok with black American

There are some who believe they are not “African”, they have no association, connections or roots to Africa. And there are some who will go as far to tell you the transatlantic slavery never happened, their ancestors was always in America; none of their ancestors came from Africa. They believe All of their ancestors was in America and have always been in America before any so-called “slave trade.”
And there are some who say that “Africans sold my ancestors into slavery”, so they don’t want anything to do with Africa.
But the number one reason why some Blacks who are born in America get offended when you refer to them as African American but ok with black American is that “Africa” has been painted, portrayed and propagandized to the world as the most backward, uncivilized, corrupt, warmongering, disease ridden, poverty stricken, sh!thole place (Donald Trump) to live on earth. Till this day, you still have western media still showing the big belly, flies flying around a young naked Black African boy or girl face, while you see a white woman asking for $1 dollar-a-day donations to feed this poor, hungry, impoverished, 3rd world African children.
To some being associated with that negative imagery is the worst thing on earth.
There are some who will literally fight you if you tell them that they are African American. “I am not African. I am an American.”
