“IF YOU ONLY READ ONE BOOK IN YOUR LIFE, READ: FOOD, HEALTH, AND YOU: WHY BLACK PEOPLE DIE SO YOUNG!!”
by DR. KAMAU RASHIDI KAMBON
INTRODUCTION
FOOD! FOOD! FOOD! Why do Black people spend so much time planning what to eat, eating, and planning for the next meal? Food consumes much of our valuable time, day in and day out we put many types of food into our bodies–these foods are of every shape and color and affect our emotions, moods and interactions with others. We eat all day long, everyday – we eat at least three “healthy meals” a day and on good days, especially when we are excited or sad. we may even eat more than the “normal” “three squares”. Why the great obsession with food? Why do people even kill others-and themselves- for food? Why do people go to fancy schools to become chefs or gourmet cooks? Why do nations hold each other political/economic hostage by denying one another access to metric tons of food?
Let’s take a critical look at some of the alternative health works and research efforts which have emerged over the years outlining thoughts on the nature of food and what foods are good for you and which are not so good for you.
WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT FOOD?
Unfortunately, most Black people, including doctors know very little about food and its role in the maintenance of good health. What do you know about foods? What have you personally read, studied and learned about food and its effect on the body?? This book. “Food. Health and You…”, is designed to be your first exposure to relevant information about food and its effects on the mind, body and spirit. Use this book as your personal reference and encourage your family and friends to READ THIS BOOK SO THEY DON’T ENCOUNTER SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE.
