The two yr olds I teach are already programmed with ‘self hate.’ When I try reading books representing them/us they get a little more distracted than usual and will go out of their way not to appear to listen, so I try to shorten the stories(they are usually board book versions of the longer stories)and make them interactive and then do hands on activities connected to the books. I do notice that when they choose books they tend to choose the Kmtyw ones that I read to them. Maybe they are really listening. It’s my mission to reprogram our kids and hopefully the parents too.

Great work. I’m sure they are listening more than you know. 2 year olds definitely have a short attention span and go back and forth with interests. I teach 8-12 year olds and I have similar issues. I personally prefer to assist them than the parents because they seem too far gone and have 0 interest in anything kmtyw. I am actually the temporary guardian of 2 of them because of the neglect from the parents🥺 Keep up the Blacknificent work in teaching our youth.

yes, the parents typically have zero interest in anything of Kmtyw significance. In fact, I notice how when the children come to school the next day, I can tell they read my daily reports of what we did in the classroom or see the work the children did for the day because they will send their kids to school wearing ‘AmeriKKKan’ flag tshirts for the boys and for the girls some Cinderella, Snow White type of tshirt from Disney. I feel they intentionally do it because they resent that I teach Afrikan centered concepts to their kids, but that just makes me all the more determined. Yes, 2 year olds have very short attention spans that’s why I make my activities and story time very brief and interactive. I know early childhood aged children learn mostly by moving and doing. Asante sana for your encouragement, you keep being a warrior teacher as well. Abibifahodie!
