In this article, I discuss the practice of wisdom in African society, with a special focus on the cultivation of the mind via the insights of Intef (intf), a sesh (sš) or scribe from the so-called 12th Dynasty of Kemet (kmt). In summation, I delineate several paths towards its development. These are understanding one’s heart, as the heart (ib) is an aspect of consciousness and a means of knowing; the internalization of wisdom via deep and incessant study; moderation in speech and action, and thus the avoidance of excess; drawing upon the best of one’s ancestral traditions; persistence and a willingness to engage in hard work; and an openness to listen to and consult with others.
