Zimbabwe Ties New Chrome Mining to Local Smelting

The Zimbabwean government has announced stringent new policies to boost domestic mineral processing.

For chrome mining, new titles exceeding 100 hectares will only be issued if linked to the expansion or development of new furnace capacity for producing ferrochrome, effective immediately.

☝️Concurrently, the government is reinforcing a “use it or lose it” policy, urging holders of unused mining titles, especially in chrome, to develop them or risk forfeiture.

The country’s cabinet also reaffirmed the existing ban on exporting raw chrome ores.
