In Gīkūyū science, Mount Kenya was formed after a “Star” known as Rīūki (literally meaning –the stone that came from outer space) hit the earth’s surface. The impact created a huge explosion followed by an earthquake and outward symmetrical waves. The depression created by riuki extruded magma- gīcūrūcūrū, volcanic ashes- umbī and debris of disintegrated rīūki to the surface. Riuki became an embededment of Mount Kenya rocks. Rīūki is considered a sacred rock and it’s science is under the custody of ‘Mbarī ya Anjirū’ (Anjirū clan) of the Gīkūyū.
Rīūki is known in european language as “Kenyte”. It is the rarest volcanic rock on earth, found only in Mt. Kenya and Mt. Erebus in Antarctica. There are theories that it’s presence in only those two places is due to it being introduced by a meteorite that came into the planet and split into two with one landing at the equator (Kenya) and the other at the south pole(Antarctica)]-

Karibu Mkuu!

I think there is a Muriuki in Ngugi’s ‘Petals of blood’.
-
Yes, the name is derived from the rock. There are people called “Muriuki” and others “Kariuki”
