The Alliance of Sahel States (AES), formed by Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali, has reportedly expanded its military arsenal as part of efforts to fight terrorism and armed terrorist groups across the Sahel.
Reports say the AES has acquired heavy artillery systems, light combat aircraft, military drones, weapons, helicopters, and ammunition to strengthen ongoing security operations.
Instead of depending heavily on outside military powers (like most, if not all, African countries), the AES countries are increasingly pushing for a self-driven regional defense strategy based on collective military cooperation.
The AES bloc continues to promote a united security approach under the slogan of strength, unity and solidarity as instability and insurgent attacks remain a major challenge across the Sahel region.
