Maakye m’adamfoɔ @obadelekambon ! … Mewɔ asɛmmisa … We often see the term ” Asafo ” around Afrikan centered circles, but I was curious if this spelling is the anglicized version of ” Asraafoɔ ” as found in Advanced Akan Dictionary by J.O. Anane ??

I responded to this but it disappeared someway. It’s the other way. Asraafoɔ is the Akanization of soldier. Other variations include asorodafo and sorafo. Asafo is wholly indigenous from the nominal prefix a-, sa ‘war’, -fo agentive suffix. Mwalimu Baruti consulted with me on this back in the day before popularizing the term.
