Ankh, Udja, Seneb all! I hope all is well and everyone’s having a great week. This morning I was reviewing the third lesson of my Intro Twi notes and saw the vocab list in the appendix. Therein contains the word “fie” and @obadelekambon has it translated as “house.” I attempted to try to translate into another native language – ëtyö and I’m having a little difficulties since there are several words for house in ëtyö and they all have different meanings. I guess my question is really what “fie” means and if it’s similar to the idea of “pr” in mdw ntr? If so, what is “pr” really mean and convey? I looked at this, trying to follow the mdw ntr, demotic, and sahidic coptic and it led me to “room keeper,” which still makes me to wonder and question about the functionalities and roles of a “room keeper.” Anyway, i hope this wasn’t too much and my questions are somewhat coherent but I look forward to hearing some of your thoughts and responses around this. It would help me better understand what “fie” is in Twi and ultimately help me to better translate it into ëtyö. Meda ase/Potóo/Matondo

The root verb of efie is fi – to go out from/be from. This is similar to pr – to go out from. For both, it seems the sense that a house is the place that you go out from.

Jus resharing from chat, I read *fie* and *pr* as “yaad” and “home” generally.
Ex: Ɛmo wɔ fie “rice deh home” or, more figuratively, “rice deh a mi yaad”
