Meda ase Ọbádélé Kambon I have visited the site recommended and am in the process of saving my funds to finance my repatriation. I need some questions and concerns regarding repatriation addressed before I consider making any financial commitments. If things were different, I would move to Ghana tomorrow morning. I love Ghana! I’ve loved Ghana ever since I visited in 1988. I regret missing the opportunity to repatriate sooner.
However, during this time of turmoil and uncertainty, I feel that it is not a good idea for someone like me, a single, elderly, disabled woman with modest income to repatriate to Africa, especially when no country in Africa can guarantee our safety. Please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
As desperately as I feel the need to go to Ghana to live out the remainder of my days, I do not feel safe visiting Africa right now, let alone permanently moving to Africa for the following reasons:
1. It is apparent that China is planning to colonize Africa, one country at a time. China is looking to step up their defense engagement with African countries and increase its economic and commercial profile on the continent to protect Chinese assets.
2. Boko Haram, the terrorist organization based in northeastern Nigeria, could very well re-emerge and be expanded to anywhere in Africa at any time.
3. Nigerians are currently being enslaved due to migrant slavery in Libya which I believe could be expanded to anywhere in Africa at any time.
4. There is little unity among continental Africans and each other. There is little unity among diasporan Africans and each other. And, there is little unity among continental Africans and diasporan Africans. I’ve learned recently that we diasporan Africans are referred to as Oburoni by some Ghanaians!
I overstand that the term “Oburoni” is the Akan (or more specifically, the Twi language) word for foreigner, which literally means “those who come from over the horizon.” It also translates into “white person.”
5. How can I guarantee my own safety in Africa? Do any of the African countries have the military force and weaponry to win a war against the forces that are closing in on her?
6. Are all African countries in agreement right now, that they each are ready, willing and able to disregard their differences, bond together in unity, pool their resources and fight side by side to save and protect their continent and her citizens? If African countries have not already been working on it… isn’t it already too late to start now that Chinese occupancy is imminent?
It appears to me that Africa is on the brink of war…if not with China and or Libya, definitely within its own various communities. Africa’s own indigenous children are fed up with political corruption and the fear and passivity of the proverbial “adults in the room”! The African children will do what was done in South Africa. They will take to the streets. Where do I fit into that? As a single, elder, disabled African diasporan woman, I cannot survive in a land that is at war! I cannot run for my life. I cannot fight for Africa’s life. What can I do?
What can I even do as an individual repatriate to help Ghana get it together? Once I repatriate, I have to wait up to seven years before I can even apply for citizenship, therefore I can neither vote in elections nor run for political office.
I see many videos inviting young people to repatriate to Africa. I hardly ever see any videos inviting elder retirees to repatriate to Africa. Does Africa only want young, strong diasporans who are still working or own a business? In closing, please bear with me. Please be patient with me. Please excuse and forgive me if I sound harsh and unpleasant. I know I may sound to you as though I’m whining and bringing up a lot of negative discussions, but I have to have answers to my questions before I even give any further energy to my decision making process on whether or to repatriate to Africa. This is a serious and drastic life decision for me…one that I do not take lightly. I pray you can answer most of my questions and relieve some of my concerns. For those that you can’t, I hope you can direct me towards other resources that can.
Peace and blessings to you and yours!
