The other day at work I overheard a co worker telling another co worker how she went to ‘the Afrikans’ to get her hair braided. When I heard her say, ‘The Afrikans’ as if she herself is not ‘Afrikan,’ I don’t know what came over me, but I asked her, “you do realize that you are Afrikan too?” Then some other negropeans chimed in talking blah blahs about being how they were not Afrikan and they never been to Afrika, but were ‘mixed’ with ‘Blackfoot’ Indian. I asked them had they ever been to an Indian reservation since their argument for not being Afrikan was founded on them not ever visiting the continent. Again, I dont know what came over me😳, but then I started mocking them in my ‘copy cat’ voice when they said that. “I’m not Afrikan, I got Indian in me…” Blah blah *bleep bleep* blah…they dared not say anything either. When I think about it I kinda chuckle to myself. #LMAAO (Laughing my AFRIKAN a** off)😳😅

That’s hilarious. Especially the part about whether they’ve ever been to an indian reservation.

This “I’m not African” bs is also perpetuated in families. My own G-mother railed against “African” anything my entire life. It wasn’t until I visited the continent myself that I learned how un-informed she was. Good move to press Black folx on visiting a reservation (not one of the casino owning ones tho’). They’ll notice immediately the “concentration camp” arrangement right away. Heh! yurugu is making a “head fake” by “returning” some Indigenous lands, but keep you eye on the policies. If those don’t change (they won’t), then the game of extermination is still on!

The closest many will get to an ‘indigenous reservation’ is the casino. Ive been on some, but when I was a child. The ‘Ive got Indian in me’ argument that many black ppl use to negate the fact they have Afrikan connex in their bloodline tries my patience to say the least. But I do acknowledge that there is a historical connex between indigenous communities and diasporic Afrikan ones.

Right. What many of us w/ Indigenous folx in our families don’t do while claiming “Indian blood”; a) we don’t speak any Indigenous language, b) we don’t practice any Indigenous cultural forms (language, food, ceremonies, calendar, skills), c) don’t know the deep or recent history of that tribe, d) don’t know the requirements for tribal membership, but instead adopt the superficial orientation of yurugu’s “one drop” theory. Talk about adding insult to injury!! Same goes for “I’m Afro-Irish, French or German, etc”. Really? Do you speak German? Know any Gaelic? Yeah, I understand where the aversion comes from, is it stopping all these YG from buying up land in AF? Nope. Is it stopping them from stealing AF cultural wisdom? Nope. YG has done a great job of training AF folx to think of AF as nothing, so that theft can continue. /rant

Exactly. A lot of them just talking blah blahs without nothing to back it up. Plus, they are afrophobic and use whatever excuse to distance themselves from Afrika and being Afrikan.

Afrophobic. I’m gonna adopt this term. Thank you!! “Oh, that sounds like an Afrophobic concept”. heh!
