      Africology Presentation Essay

The lecture concerning ‘Africology’ (the study of Black People)presented by Okunini Daktari Obadele Kambon focused on how the word/name ‘Africa’ does not indicate who the land belongs to. But rather is a generic term whose origins are from Rome or the Romans.

In fact, Okunini Kambon shared in his presentation that the name ‘Africa’ given by the Romans(amw)only designated a small region of North Africa which is present day ‘Tunisia.’ Other derivatives of ‘Africa’ are Afar, Arabic for ‘dust, earth,’ and ‘Affrike’ which is a Middle English term. These words are possible roots of where the name Africa could have gotten its’ origins.

Other points were backed up by Kemetyw sacred text written in the Mdw Neter(Hieroglyphics)that clearly pointed to how the people of the region of Kemet knew they were black and defended themselves and the ‘land of the black people’ from wazungu/Amw based on that fact.

In addition, the presentation posed thoughts from Black Nationalist Ancestors like Nana Steve Biko, Nana Paul Bogle, Nana Chancellor Williams, etc reminding black people how the amw are our known enemies and how black people should defy them by uniting as a group against them in order to obtain our total liberation.

The presentation was narrowed down by these key points by Daktari Kambon:

The name we adopt influences our thinking

      one’s thinking influences one’s behavior

we will either behave as though our land is the land of black people or that is it is a conquered land province of non-blacks

The name Africa was not adopted through self-determination or self-agency

Sankofa-Kmt was our original name and it directs us to correct behavior

To conclude, the implications and terms of who the land of Kemet belongs to is that we will be empowered to remove those who are non-black either ‘peacefully’ or by combative force as what was the case during the time when it was clear our ancestors knew who ‘Africa’ belonged to.
