The Teachings of Ptahhotep
The Maxims of Ptahhotep
He said unto his Son:
“Should you be a leader, with a range of duties, excel in all your work so that you shall be praised for eternity. No dispute arises in the midst of praises. Whenever envy arises, hatred follows.”
He addressed his Son:
“If you are a leader who has been commanded with great responsibilities, then you should do great things, so that you shall be praised in the days still to come. A dispute does not arise out of the midst of praises. Whenever envy arises, hatred follows.”
He spoke to his Son:
“If thou be a leader, as one leading the multitudes of his people, aspire always to be great, so that you shall be praised for eternity. No dispute arises out of the midst of praises. Whenever envy arises, hatred follows.”
He said to his Son:
“If You are a leader who have been appointed to govern, You should do outstanding things, so as to be honored for eternity. No strife occurs in the midst of honors. Indeed, wherever envy emerges, hatred arises.”
He spoke to his Son:
“If you are a leader, Take great responsibility in the matters that are entrusted to you, and accomplish great things, so that you shall be praised on the days which are still to come. No conflict arises in the midst of praises. The entrance of envy is an occasion for hatred.”
Let me speak unto my Son:
“If you are a leader, as one who leads his people, aspire always to be great, so that your name will be remembered when libation is offered. No evil arises in the midst of venerating the Great Ancestors. Wherever envy arises, hatred follows.”
