Tomorrow, marks my 10th bornday as an Akan man. Through DNA testing, I discovered that I had distant paternal ancestry to the Akan people of Ghana. It completely stunned my Dad when I told him back in 2014.
Prior to 2014, I didn’t know I’d have any genetic link to Ghana the same way I didn’t know I’d have maternal genetic ties to Bioko Island and the Abóbë people months earlier.
I’m trying to learn more about Akan culture, history, spirituality, cosmology and philosophy and I plan to learn Twi actively. I also am planning to visit Ghana 🇬🇭 sometime in the next few years. I also plan to visit Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮 and meet the Akan family from there also.
