• Uganda’s Museveni Directs Agriculture Ministry to Create Tea Farming Regulations

      During a meeting with tea stakeholders in Western Uganda on Tuesday, the Ugandan president emphasized the need to regulate both growers and buyers to ensure quality, citing potential earnings of $392 per month under intensive farming, local media reported.

      President Museveni:
      tasked the ministry to coordinate a guiding document, referencing potential yields of 8,000 kilograms per acre with proper practices;
      pledged government support to address challenges faced by tea growers;
      approved $87.5 million to help growers and processors pay off loans and improve tea quality aiming for a stable international market.
