Egypt Launches Its First Neobank to Boost Financial Inclusion

The Central Bank of Egypt has approved Misr Digital Innovation (MDI) to transform into “Onebank,” the country’s first digital-only bank.

Starting in 2026, the bank:
will provide a full range of online banking services exclusively through digital channels and platforms without any physical branches;

will target remote areas and populations excluded from the traditional banking system,

aims to expand access to financial services in a country where, according to the World Bank, more than 60% of adults are unbanked.
