• Burkinabe Hospital Successfully Performs First Total Knee Replacement for Osteoarthritis Patient

The surgery, which was performed on August 20, was carried out at the Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital Center (CHU-YO) in Ouagadougou on a 59-year-old woman.

Performed by surgeon Christian Darga, the procedure aimed to alleviate chronic pain and restore mobility for the patient.

A qualitative improvement in the technical platform, including skilled staff and better equipment, made this intervention possible, the CHU-YO said in a statement.

Since 2018, the CHU-YO has also been performing total hip replacements. This achievement signifies improved surgical capabilities within the country and reduces the need for patients to seek such specialized treatments abroad.
