• 🇬🇭 Ghana Raises Cocoa Farmgate Price by 12.3% Starting Friday

📈 Ghana, the world’s second-largest cocoa producer, has announced a 12.3% increase in the fixed farmgate price for the 2025/26 crop season — its second price adjustment this year. Normally, the price is set just once annually.

Beginning Friday, cocoa farmers will receive about $4,600 per tonne, up from roughly $4,098, equivalent to around $287 per 64 kg bag.

Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson explained the revision:

“Subsequently, we have seen some changes, so it is important for us to review the producer price again.”

🇨🇮 The move comes after Côte d’Ivoire — the world’s top cocoa producer — raised its farmgate price to about $5.05 per kg. Forson added:

“Before yesterday we were far ahead, and they tried to catch up. I think we are competitive now.”

Both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, which together supply over 60% of global cocoa, continue to face low yields due to drought and crop disease. Smuggling has also hit Ghana hard, with an estimated 160,000 tonnes lost in the 2023/24 season.

COCOBOD spokesman Jerome Kwaku Sam noted: “Reviewing the price by adding an additional amount will indeed help to curb smuggling.”

The adjustment signals Ghana’s determination to protect its farmers and maintain parity with its regional partner while ensuring stability in the global cocoa market.
