Chad’s Parliament Approves Extending Presidential Term From Five to Seven Years

Deputies and senators adopted the constitutional revision that was approved by referendum in 2023.

The seven-year presidential term will also be renewable indefinitely.

✅Voting:

🟠 Proposal led by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno’s Patriotic Salvation Movement.

🟠 Result: 236 votes in favor, 0 against, out of 257 members.

The presidential term length will only change starting from the next presidential election.
