🇬🇦 The southern coast of Gabon has suffered from an oil spill, the cause of which is still unknown.
Oil slicks measuring 70-100 kilometers have reached the beaches of Mayumba and Mayonami. Initially, the slicks were discovered at the end of September near the shore, but then the oil was carried onto the beaches.
The Ministry of Environment recommends that the population “temporarily limit the use of natural resources in the affected areas” due to the “risk of contamination of coastal fauna and deterioration of water quality”.
The agency plans to soon establish a structure for environmental monitoring of the affected areas, complete the cleanup of the coastline, and determine the causes of the pollution.
