Zimbabwe Flower Exports Hit $2.5 Million in Nine Months, Up Four Percent From Last Year

The Agriculture Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy 2 (AFSRTS 2) projects the gross value of floriculture production will reach $16 million by 2030, up from the current $10 million. The strategy identifies floriculture as a significant economic contributor requiring modern infrastructure and niche marketing.

To meet the target, the country plans to produce 334 million flower cuttings on 800 hectares by 2030.

AFSRTS 2 outlines plans to:

modernize infrastructure,
develop new markets,
invest in modern greenhouses,
expand cold storage facilities.

Floriculture output will soar from 2,300 tonnes to 40,000 tonnes by 2030, supported by a 615% area expansion (from 130 to 930 hectares), Horticultural Development Council board member Willard Zireva projected, noting that earnings are expected to reach $276.98 million.

The expansion, which includes increasing summer flower cultivation to 600 hectares and roses to 330 hectares, requiring a $45.6 million investment, is projected to create 4,650 new jobs and transform rural livelihoods.
