Know this
Grandcestor, Nana Carter G Woodson, the pioneer and founder to what we
came to know as Black History Month. Have you read The Mis-Education of
the Negro? His book that is 93 years old in 2026, almost 100 years! Some facts on Black History Month that have to be acknowledged because in speaking with my Elders, they are quite upset by what some young people say regarding the month:
-It was NOT given to us by anyone
-It was an act of self-determination
-Nana Carter G Woodson started it with “Negro History Week” in 1926
Then expanded by Black communities, college student activists and educators to one month by one instance in the 40s and significantly by the end of the 1960s
-It was not meant to reduce Ourstory to one month nor the shortest month of the year

This is the next book on my reading list! Had a fellow Sojourner (Sankɔfa Journey 2025) tell me how their life changed after someone gave them this book! @SistahV

“History shows that it does not matter who is in power…those who have not learned to do for themselves and have to depend solely on others never obtain any more rights or privileges in the end than they did in the beginning” The Mis-Education of the Negro by Nana Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson,
