Closed for 15 Years, Land Border Between Kenya & Somalia to Reopen in April: Kenyan President

The border between the two countries had been closed due to repeated attacks in Kenya by the Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab*.

In May 2023, the two countries agreed to a gradual reopening of their 700 km shared land border. But two months later, Nairobi postponed the process after the deaths of five civilians and eight police officers in separate attacks in areas near the border, attributed to al-Shabaab.
