6 African Female Designers Who Reclaimed Cultural Identity Through Fashion 🌍🧵
From Sarah Diouf building Tongoro entirely in Dakar, to Lafalaise Dion’s hand-crafted pieces now sitting in the V&A, to Florentina Agu weaving Yoruba heritage into every thread. These designers did not look West for validation. They looked inward, to their communities, their ancestors, and their textiles, and built something the world could not ignore.
Their work has been worn by global superstars, shaped international trends, and positioned African fashion as a powerful voice for culture, artistry, and modern identity.
This is by no means an exhaustive list. Which African female designer inspires you most and why?

I just got into my Kmtyw clothing bag last year so not familiar with any specific female designers, but this is BlackTastik work and power to these sistas 💪🏽🙌🏽🖤

@Niara_Kwento , not all, but enough of it looks to be overpriced. LemLem looks to cater to aAmw. Unfortunately, that is how the Ethiopians I know in The Snakes are, they love to cater to aAmw. I hope it is not like that when I am in Addis Ababa. I hate coming home, and they act worse there than they do here, catering and pandering to aAmw.
