Mali Attack Targeted Entire Sahel Confederation, Says Bloc President
The attack on Mali was aimed not just at that country but at the whole Confederation of Sahel States (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger), said Burkinabe President Ibrahim Traoré, current head of the regional bloc.
The well-coordinated assault struck multiple sites, intended to cause heavy losses and spread fear, he noted.
But Malian forces, backed by allies, repelled the attackers and now fully control the situation, Traoré added.
The AES president condemned a “monstrous conspiracy” by enemies of the Sahel’s liberation struggle and thanked partners who showed solidarity with Mali.
