• Hidden World Unveiled: Dozens of New Species (and a Glowing Spider!) Found in Angola

      🇦🇴 Dozens of species new to science have been discovered on Angola’s remote Lisima plateau, according to Tuesday’s report from The Wilderness Project.

      👨‍🔬 The team of 16 specialists recorded over:

      ▪️ 100 dragonfly species, including eight new to science;
      ▪️ 47 grasshopper species with 3 discovered;
      ▪️ more than 1,000 butterflies and moths, with up to 6% of moth species new to science.
      ▪️ 47 reptiles and amphibians, including venomous snakes and rich wetland frog communities.
      ▪️over 320 collections of plants across diverse habitats.

      🍃 Remoteness and landmines once kept this region safe. Now, roads, diamond mines, slash-and-burn farms, and logging are tearing forests apart and choking rivers with silt.

      The most peculiar living thing is a newly discovered crowned crab spider that fluoresces under UV light in the last photo.
