Most of the OG’s during this time period remember all of the negative terms we were called for being Black, the darker you were, the more abuse you took. Not by krakkkas but by each other. Months after the assassination of the Nana Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968, something happened that impacted the lives of Black people of all ages across Amerikkka. Rising from cities ruined by riots in protest of the assassination, radio stations and entertainment television shows began blaring a new tune, that was being sung BY ALL BLACK PEOPLE EVERYWHERE. It was written by the “Godfather of Soul,” James Brown, and his bandleader Alfred “Pee Wee” Ellis. The life-changing event was the release of the historic musical masterpiece, “Say It Loud — I’m Black and I’m Proud!” ‘I’m Black and I’m Proud’ — it was an affirmation of self-respect and a challenge to others to respect themselves. #ABIBITUMI
