Why we only know 30% of W.E.B. Du Bois's story—and what we're missing
What if Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois had emerged at the same moment—not sequentially, but simultaneously—and their philosophies had collided and blended in the middle, the outcome for Black America could have been dramatically different. The historical record shows their approaches were deeply complementary even though they clashed. By merging them, you get a model of Black advancement that is economically grounded, politically assertive, and intellectually ambitious—a combination the Black community never fully had in one unified movement.
