Saa na ɛyɛ. In Dagaare? I made this the first assignment for @Stiky since it’s part of the course syllabus. Now you too can add the mdw nTr to the front page of your copy book).

I made a correction from srxw – admonitions to sxrw – advice. Though I see in Vygus, in certain words, the order of the two uniliterals could be interchanged (see attached), I modified it to reflect what’s actually here in this text.

I may transition the mdw nTr course that I teach at the University of Ghana online to Abibitumi to complement the course taught by Seba Bonotchi Montgomery eventually. What do you think?

N okkíi ë eiheri (“I have a question” in ëtyö). For the transliteration of this last line, shouldn’t it be sb3yt nt Hty because of the loaf of bread and because it has to modify the noun which is feminine ending in -t (sb3yt) and not just sb3yt n Hty? Potóo.

This is sooooo nfr!!!! I saw your daughter Akosua write down something else I think in another photo on here and it was just such a beautiful sight. Train them when they are young!!! So, does your daughter know Twi, Yoruba, English, and mdw ntr? Amazing. We are normalizing multilingualism!!!

I have three daughters. Ama, the oldest at 14 knows Twi, Yorùbá, English and writes mdw nTr. She’s working on the purification scene from the tomb of imAxw snnfr right now. Akosua, who’s 7, knows Twi and English and is learning mdw nTr. I posted a pic of her transcription of the text in this post. Akosua’s Yorùbá lags because I mainly speak Twi to her around the house and her mother mainly speaks english to her around the house. I have to be more intentional about her second language migration towards Yorùbá or she’ll lose out in the end. And multilingualism is already the norm here in the land of Black people a.k.a. Kmt.

Beautiful!!!! Yea, I’ve been trying to push Black people here to normalize multilingualism and speak more languages. People are often surprised that I speak so many languages. I’m just like “why?”

                              Is “ba” a stative verb?

And how do we know when a verb is stative in Twi?

Ba isn’t stative, it’s an action/dynamic verb. Stative verbs relate to a state of being rather than an action. They tend to have suppletive forms like wɔ/nya, te/tena, nim/hunu n.a. If you have this, I show more examples of stative verbs and their suppletive forms using IPA phonetic renderings: https://www.abibitumi.com/shop/linguistic-analysis-of-the-akan-language-pdf-78-pages/

I ask because I notice ii/iw is stative (or at least has a stative form), like “nfrt.t iy.ii”, so I was wondering if ba was likewise. I will definitely get this essay! Medase

Actually, it was 1999 to 2002. In 1999 he started off as a study group on campus, then it became a formal class in 2000. When I came back from study abroad here in Ghana for the 2000-2001 school year, I resumed with him. Based on the connections I was making between Twi and mdw nTr in class, he tasked me to go to grad school for that and the rest is ourstory!

I remember Nana John Henrik Clarke saying that we’re supposed to be given assignments like that. It’s probably my turn to start giving assignments like that.

Indirect genitive. Agreed for number and gender in the early stages of the language (n, nt, nw), while in later stages these were all collapsed into n. Here it agrees for gender with feminine sbAyt.

If I specifically see the y in the original mdw nTr, I’ll add it. Otherwise, I follow Allen’s indirect genitive transliteration of n.
